Upgrading from Windows 3.X to Windows 98

Here are some things to keep in mind when upgrading your computer from Windows 3.X to Windows 98.

Before You Begin

Before you begin the upgrade, you must completely remove your existing Invisible LAN software for Windows 3.X.

Remember, Invisible LAN for Windows 95/98 is a totally different product than Invisible LAN for Windows 3.X. You will have problems if you don't remove your Windows 3.X version of Invisible LAN before installing Windows 98.

If you don't know how to remove Invisible LAN for Windows 3.X, you can read the FAQ on How to Remove Invisible LAN for Windows 3.X.

During the Upgrade

There's nothing special you have to do during the upgrade process.

After Installing Windows 98

After installing Windows 98, you are ready to install the Invisible LAN software for Windows 95/98.

For Windows 98, you must use Invisible LAN version 4.00J or later.

You can tell which version you have by looking at the dates of your Invisible LAN files. If the date is 02/01/98 or later, then you have version 4.00J or later. If the files are dated 12/07/97 or earlier, then you have an earlier version of Invisible LAN.

If you're not certain that you have version 4.00J or later, go to our Software Products section and download the current version of Invisible LAN for Windows 95 and 98 now. Be warned, you will have problems if you attempt to install any version of Invisible LAN prior to 4.00J on a Windows 98 system.

You can find installation instructions in the text file 95SETUP.TXT which is included with the Invisible LAN software. You can also find instructions in the "Invisible LAN Windows 95 User Manual" which you can get from our On-Line Manuals section. Although the instructions are written for Windows 95, the same procedures apply to Windows 98.
